Hello everyone! Wow, it sure has been an incredibly hectic week. Who knew I would be posting this week’s blog post from my house in the Bay Area and not in my dorm at Chapman like all the previous posts?? I hope you are all safe and healthy and keeping up to date on news about the crisis.
This week, I will be brainstorming ideas for our final (!!) project of the class. We are doing a “self-ethnography” which I have never heard of before, so I am looking forward to learning about it! And now, onto the brainstorming.

Drawing inspiration from the three communities I chose for my photo essay project, I am thinking I will do my self-ethnography on Christianity. Being a Christian has been a huge part of my life and journey, so I think it would be cool to reflect on that part of my life. I will look into questions such as, what is it like to be a Christian in 2020? What is a common misconception about Christians and how can I address that? What does being Christian mean to me and other people in the community? These are just a few ideas of what I could include in my final project.
I would also love to include interviews with other Christians to get their perspectives. I could do a phone or video-call interview. If that does not work, I could just email them the questions and get a written response (which would not be as good). For the interviews, I will try to have the audio and written transcript in my final project so my audience can easily follow along.

I am also playing with the idea of doing a podcast as my final project and providing a written transcript for people to follow along while they are listening. I really enjoy listening to podcasts so it would be cool to create something that I consume so frequently. Also, I have never made a podcast so it would be a fun project! I may not end up doing the podcast idea though because personally I am a very visual person so I would like to have pictures and visuals in my final project. Either way, I plan on including the interviews.
I am excited to see where my self-ethnography goes, and hope you are too! In the comments, let me know if you have any suggestions of what I could add or change to my project idea – I’m all ears!
Clarissa

These are really good ideas, I love the idea of doing a podcast. I think it’s a medium that students our age know well so it would be a great way to tell your story. I am also a visual person; maybe it would be possible to do a podcast while incorporating visuals.

Hi Clarissa,
I think your idea sounds really nice. I always love listening to podcasts and I feel like a podcast as a final project would be very engaging. I also really enjoy the idea of a self ethnography and seeing what you view as part of your identity is extremely interesting!

A self ethnography on Christianity would be super interesting, as long as you integrated several primary sources. A podcast would be very captivating as well, especially if you are able to include several primary sources. Great brainstorming! Also — the introduction of your blog was extremely welcoming and friendly.
